Wildfires and Natural Hazards, South Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys

8:30 AM–4:30 PM  

This field trip will travel through the South Okanagan and into the Similkameen Valley. Highlights of the trip include: a visit the Glenrosa Fire, now 10 years old, to view the natural recovery in a severely burned area; the Mount Eneas Fire on the steep bedrock slopes above Highway 99; and the large Snowy Mountain Fire.

7:45 AM - Field Trip Registration Starts (Delta Hotels by Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort, Lobby, 1310 Water Street, Kelowna, BC)
8:30 AM - Field Trip Bus Departs from Hotel (*Please note that any latecomers will need to meet at the next field trip stop on their own. Additional cost will not be covered by the field trip organizers.)
4:45 PM - Field Trip Bus Drops Off at Hotel

Please note:

  • Field trip schedule is subject to change, pending on weather and road conditions on the actual day of the event.
  • Expect the weather to be cool and possibly wet; warm clothing and rain jacket is suggested.
  • Good footwear is recommended.

A Taste of Kelowna: Engineering Highlights, Environmental Insights and Wine

1:00 PM-4:30 PM

Highlights of the field trip will include the Glenmore Landfill’s new gas collection and leachate treatment systems, administration building, and collection layout; the Regional Compost Facility near Predator Ridge; amazing views of the Okanagan Valley; and wine tasting and relaxation at the 50th Parallel Winery.
