THE PROFESSIONAL GOVERNANCE ACT (PGA) AND CHANGES TO REGISTRANT OBLIGATIONS

In this session we will be reviewing the impact that the Professional Governance Act will have on a number of annual processes for registrants. We will discuss: The new mandatory Continuing Education Program, including a program overview and timeline; The introduction of mandatory information reporting; and The structure of the new audit and practice review process.


REGULATION OF FIRMS – PERMIT TO PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS

The Professional Governance Act will come into force in November 2020, and with the implementation of the new Act, Engineers and Geoscientists BC will receive the legislative authority to regulate engineering and geoscience firms in British Columbia. Mandatory firm regulation will begin in July 2021. The regulatory model is based on three pillars: quality management, continuing education, and ethics. This session will cover the requirements in the Professional Governance Act, Regulations, and bylaws; and how Engineers and Geoscientists BC will support registrant firms in meeting the Permit to Practice requirements.


THE NEW CODE OF ETHICS

The session will introduce the new Code of Ethics mandated by the Professional Governance Act.


LESSONS LEARNED FROM INVESTIGATIONS AND DISCIPLINE

This presentation discusses the investigation and discipline process at the association. The session also discusses recent trends in investigations and reviews the discipline cases published over the past year. The presentation is intended to be an interactive session where participants are able to ask general questions about investigation and discipline activities at Engineers and Geoscientists BC. The presenter will not be giving legal advice nor discuss active investigations or discipline files, only completed discipline matters.
