GUIDANCE FOR TECHNICAL ASSESSMENTS IN SUPPORT OF GROUNDWATER USE APPLICATIONS

Speaker: Michele Lepitre, P.Geo., David Thomson, P.Geo., and Julie-Ann Ishikawa, P.Geo.

The Water Sustainability Act and Water Sustainability Regulation (WSR) provide a means to allocate groundwater in BC. Although minimum application requirements are in the WSR, the statutory decision maker (SDM) often considers additional factors; therefore, the SDM may order the applicant to provide additional information. This Technical Assessment guidance document is provided so applicants and their professionals understand the level of analysis that the SDM typically requires.

INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW DORMANCY AND SHUTDOWN REGULATION

Speaker: Brian Murphy

The objective of this presentation is to introduce the Dormancy and Shutdown Regulation, and provide an update on the progress of oil and gas site remediation and restoration in British Columbia. Under the BC Oil and Gas Commission (BCOGC)’s Comprehensive Liability Management Plan, a key focus is to speed up the rate at which inactive sites are returned to their pre-activity state.
